19 Feb 2018

The leadership of PHM/Ghana – represented by Kingsley Pereko, Selorme Azumah, Kennedy Antwi, John Eliasu Mahama and Sidua Hor – met with Prof. David Sanders on 17th April, 2018 during his recent trip to Accra. The Coordinator of PHM/Ghana, Kingsley Pereko updated Prof. Sanders on key activities and campaign engagements of PHM/Ghana as well as key activities planned for 2018.

Much of the discussions centred on planning a major PHM/Ghana forum on “Universal Health Coverage in the 40th Year of Primary Health Care – Addressing Social Determinants of Health in Ghana”. The Forum will be held on 7th April, 2018 to coincide with the World Health Day and will also serve as part of PHM/Ghana’s mobilisation process towards PHA4.

Prof. Sanders shared insights with the team on some of the possible advocacy issues around Ghana’s National Health Insurance Scheme especially as they relate to Universal Health Care and Comprehensive Primary Health Care. The topics ranged from equity and differential health insurance coverage; limitations in addressing social determinants of health, community participation and multi-sectoral collaboration; etc. PHM/Ghana will highlight linkages with its previous campaigns on cholera and sanitation, both of which remain topical in Ghana.

Prof. Sanders presented copies of the Global Health Watch 5 report to PHM/Ghana and shared updates on PHM’s activities, as well as mobilization for PHA 4.
