Shatha Odeh was illegally detained by the Isreali Occupying Forces for standing up for health and human rights. Ms Odeh is Director of Health Work Committees, a leading Palestinian health NGO, and member of PHM’s Global Steering Council. She continues to be in prison despite global cry for her release. More than 130 organisations and 590 individuals signed a petition urging the World Health Organisation and the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to intervene for her release. Signatures to the petition are still open.
To mark one month of Shatha’s imprisonment, PHM organised a webinar on 7 August, 2021, aimed at sharing the Palestinian experience of working in the field of health. The speakers included members of Shatha’s family, representatives of organisations that stand for human rights and other allies. Many organisations shared solidarity messages during the event.
